Market fountain Wappner

Information

The Bietigheimer market fountain from 1549 shows an armed man wearing a large feather barrett (not a helmet) and having the function of a shield or coat of arms holder (Wappner).

In his right hand he carries the shield with Württemberg´s ducal coat of arms and in his left a rod as a badge of ducal power. With these ruler´s attributes he demonstrates the Duke of Württemberg´s sovereignty over the town.

The town´s coat of arms is located in the baluster column on which the armend man or Wappner stands. He is popularly called "Duke Ulrich".
